# Active Members

## Active Member

Active members get the same privileges as [supporting members](/handbook/membership-types/supporting-members.md), but they also get to propose [new projects](/handbook/community-projects/community-projects.md), and get access to our internal Google Drive folder. As an active member you also get the right to use [our office at Otaniemi campus](/handbook/funding-facilities-and-institutions.md#vcl-office). VCL will promote your event/project on our website, Instagram, Facebook page and through our newsletter.

### How to join

* Fulfill the requirements of a [supporting member](/handbook/membership-types/supporting-members.md).
* Become an active member by joining our general meetings or [having a role](/handbook/organization-structure/what-are-roles.md) in any running VCL project or group.

### How to leave

* Send an informal request to [Anchor Group](/handbook/internal-groups-and-featured-projects/anchor-group.md) on Slack that you want to leave. We will remove you from Slack, Google Drive & the website.

### What’s required (have to)

* Same as [Supporting Members](/handbook/membership-types/supporting-members.md).
* You participate regularly to our community activities, especially the [**monthly members’ meeting**](/handbook/general-meeting.md). We can also offer Zoom links if you wish to join the meeting remotely, please ask for a link by posting in the #monthly\_meetings\_chat channel on Slack.
* **You cancel your participation in meetings if you can’t make it** (do this by posting to the #monthly\_meetings\_chat channel in Slack)
* **You are active on Slack** (reading and responding to messages regularly).

If you are not able to attend the monthly meeting for many times in a row–or don’t want to have the Active Member status any longer for any other reason–**you can always change to be a Supporting Member, and be active again at a later point when you have more time**.

In summary, as an Active Member we wish for you to take part in the VCL communal activities and to take initiative when communicating about your level of participation to us. **This makes organising activities in this group a lot easier for us and all other members**.

### What’s encouraged (would be nice)

* Same as [Supporting Members](/handbook/membership-types/supporting-members.md).
